In Swiss fine dining, the GaultMillau "POP of the Year" is among the most coveted awards for creative, high-level cuisine. For 2026, the award goes to the Olympia restaurant in Bern. This young venue now joins a list of creative and ambitious places that impress with passion and craftsmanship.

Regionality, classic craftsmanship & creative flavors

The kitchen is headed by Simon Apothéloz, who was already named GaultMillau "Rising Star of the Year" in 2018. Back then, he impressed at "Eisblume" in Worb with his finesse, earning 17 points. At Olympia, he once again demonstrates how high-quality products, classic techniques, and modern touches can create a harmonious dining experience.
Regional and seasonal ingredients play a central role: trout from Rubigen, green asparagus from Vechigen, Duroc pork chop fried in panko, or a vegetable plate with up to a dozen individual components – every dish reflects a love for detail.

A strong team and relaxed atmosphere

The outstanding team also plays a key role in Olympia’s success: Rahel Jost, formerly at "Cervo" in Zermatt and "Bonbec" in Bern, and Marco Belz, who also runs the wine store "Trallala Weine," complement Apothéloz perfectly.
Olympia’s dining room is open and inviting, with attentive yet pleasantly relaxed service. The wine list features carefully selected bottles from small producers in Switzerland and neighboring countries. The non-alcoholic drink selection also stands out for its quality and creativity – with homemade lemonades, iced teas, and aperitifs adding their own signature flair.
